Sling's Aren't Just for Broken Bones, Use One for Hunting!

The sling can get in the way of your shot because it actually hangs from your gun. It can easily get caught on something especially if you are in very dense woods. The sling hanging on the gun may even draw attention to you and cause the animals to run for cover. If you are sitting down to take a shot then you should consider taking the sling off the rifle completely.

A rifle sling is defiantly worthwhile when going elk hunting. The guns that are best for elk hunting are very heavy and bulky, they also have long barrels and so you need to try to use a rifle sling. The sling will stop the gun proving to be quite so awkward. You can also use it to help rest the gun when you need an accurate shot. Just like anything, there are problems when using a rifle sling.

You shouldn't waste any money you should use the simplest sling you can for your gun. If you have a lightweight rifle then you can use a nylon strap. You will have to experiment and try some slings on to find out which will work best for your rifle. There are many different types and brands of sling available, so make sure you choose carefully.

The trick to using a sling is to keep it in front and not on your back. If you are right handed, you will want to keep your gun on your front left. If you are left handed, the right side works best. It is ok to wear the gun behind you, however you must consider how long it will take you to prepare for a shot. With the gun in the front, you can just raise it up to the opposite shoulder and take aim.
